Koh Phangan quietly became one of Asia's remote-work islands. The scene lives on the west coast around Srithanu — coworking spaces, nomad meetups, smoothie bowls with laptop stickers — and if that's your energy, it's genuinely good at it. This guide is about the other version: a month on the roadless southeast side, where the work gets done because there's nothing pulling you away from it.
The honest pitch
A month here looks like this: you wake up without an alarm, brunch in the garden runs until 3pm, the beach is a few minutes' walk over sand and footpaths, and your house has a real kitchen for every meal you don't feel like outsourcing. There's no scooter to rent because there's nowhere to ride it. The commute is the walk from your bed to your deck. People who need a scene should go west. People who need six focused weeks tend to stay longer than they booked.
The practical facts, disclosed properly
WiFi comes free in every house on request, and AIS has the strongest signal in the bay — but we're an off-grid bay, so if your work is bandwidth-critical, test it on day one and carry a Thai SIM as backup rather than taking anyone's word for it, including ours. Power runs on generators with brief switchovers around 7am, 3pm and 11pm; in four of the houses you can hear the hum, and we'll tell you which ones before you book. Cash matters here — no ATM in the bay, though the minimart does card withdrawal for a fee, and it also delivers groceries to all three bays.
The month rate
Our long-stay rate is called The Residence: 30% off any stay of 28 nights or longer, booked direct with us. The visa piece
Thailand's Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) changed the long-stay math: five years of validity, stays of up to 180 days that can be extended once for another 180, around 10,000฿ in fees and proof of roughly 500,000฿ in savings. Rules shift, so verify the current requirements with a Thai embassy before planning around it — but it's the reason a month on an island stopped being a workaround and became a plan.
When to come for a month
The sweet spot is May through July — calm seas on our side, gentle rates, the island breathing out after high season. November to mid-December is the quietest and cheapest, with rain that comes and goes. The honest season guide →
