Haad Yuan is the first of the three roadless bays on Koh Phangan's southeast corner: coming from Haad Rin by boat you reach Haad Yuan, then Haad Tien in the middle, then Haad Wai Nam. It is the longest beach of the three, white sand, the easiest swimming, with the parties on the rocks at its far end, Eden on Saturday nights and Bambu on Sundays. No road reaches it. You come by longtail from Haad Rin, by 4x4 over the hill from Ban Tai, or on foot from our houses in about ten minutes.

Of the three bays, Haad Yuan is the one for swimming: a long curve of white sand with open, easy water, where Haad Tien is mostly living reef and Haad Wai Nam is the small, intimate one. In jellyfish season the swimming area is netted. It faces the same way as Haad Tien, so it runs on the same flipped sea season: flat and glassy from around April to September, waves in the high-season months when the rest of the island goes calm.
Sun loungers and a slackline sit in front of Big Blue, and food comes to you on the sand. At the Haad Tien end, a small bridge leads out onto the granite boulders that hold Eden and Bambu, and the footpath over the headland to Haad Tien starts beside them. The beach faces east, so this is a sunrise beach: the sun comes up out of the sea in front of you, and the west coast is where the island goes for sunsets.
Big Blue is the most beach-club of the lot: loungers, a slackline and casual all-day dining brought to the sand. The Thai kitchen is why people who live in these bays spend their day there: a long menu at everyday prices. Order the southern fried chicken, the Amir salad or the pineapple fried rice.
Pariya is the boutique resort on the beach, with a beachfront restaurant, a bar and a pool. Lovely for a sunset cocktail and a swim off the sand; the pad krapow, tom yam and som tam are the picks. You do not have to be a guest to use the pool: eat at the restaurant, ask politely, and the answer is usually yes.
Bambu is all-day dining up on the rocks with some of the best sea views on this coast. Ask for table 5 for the view inside, or the rock platform for the spectacular one, best when it isn't too hot. Pad cha, pad krapow and pad see ew, with an Aperol spritz or a milkshake for the view. Come for lunch and stay for the Sunday session.
Stone Bar sits at the start of the bridge that leads out to Bambu and Eden, and you can't miss it: cocktails on the rocks before you walk on to either.
Two small shops on the beach sell local products and the essentials: bathroom things, sunscreen, floaties, snacks and drinks. There is no ATM on Haad Yuan or Haad Tien, so bring cash from Haad Rin or Ban Tai. If you land short, the Spice minimart on Haad Tien does card cash withdrawal for a fee and delivers groceries to all three bays.
Eden Garden party runs every Saturday from about 8pm on the boulders at the Haad Tien end of the beach: free entry, no cameras, no drones, no shoes on the dancefloor, cash or Thai PromptPay at the bar, a few hundred people on a normal night and a sunrise crowd at five or six. Bambu takes over on Sunday from midday, next door and higher on the same rocks, with the whole bay laid out below. Gentler, sunnier, cameras allowed, and together they make this the neighborhood's real party weekend. The Full Moon Party at Haad Rin, the next bay along, is monthly; this happens every week, and you can hear it across Haad Yuan all Saturday night and again on Sunday.
On Haad Yuan itself you are two minutes from the dancefloor. Pariya has air-conditioned rooms, beachfront family rooms and the area's only kids' pool. Big Blue has fan bungalows. Both come with the honest catch: the music runs all Saturday night and again on Sunday. Perfect if you are going until sunrise both days, less perfect if you want to sleep.
Haad Tien, one headland over, is the quiet option: about a ten-minute walk from the dancefloor and out of earshot of it, dark at night, built for recovery days. Our houses sit apart from one another in the jungle above the sand, with kitchens, decks and a garden restaurant below.
From Haad Rin: taxi boat from the main beach, 10 to 15 minutes, around 300฿ a person when the boat fills, up to 500฿ in high season or late at night. On Saturdays the boats run all night in both directions.
From Thong Sala or the west coast: taxi to the Ban Tai 7-Eleven at the traffic-light intersection, then a 4×4 truck over the jungle track, around 500฿ a person, 20 to 30 minutes, leaving when full. Never drive the track yourself; here is why.

Can you swim at Haad Yuan? Yes, and it is the easiest swimming of the three bays: open water off white sand, netted against jellyfish in season, flattest from around April to September. Haad Tien next door is mostly reef and better for snorkeling.
Is Haad Yuan good for sunset? No, it faces east. Haad Yuan is a sunrise beach, and the Eden crowd at 5 or 6am is proof. For sunsets, the island's west coast.
What are the Haad Rin to Haad Yuan taxi boat hours? There is no timetable. Boats leave Haad Rin's main beach when they fill, through the day and into the evening, and all night on Saturdays and on Full Moon nights. Daylight crossings are calmer and cost less, so aim for the afternoon; in rough seas the captains stop and the 4×4 from Ban Tai takes over.
Haad Yuan or Haad Tien: which should I choose? Haad Yuan for the longest beach, the easiest swimming and being two minutes from Eden and Bambu, with the noise that comes with it on weekends. Haad Tien for a private house in the jungle, a reef to snorkel, a garden restaurant and quiet nights, ten minutes on foot from all of the above.
